Yerevan Fashion Week opens at the Erebuni Museum

Two dresses on dress forms, one red and one cream, before an ancient fortress wall on a hill

Yerevan Fashion Week is back for a fourth year, from 8 to 11 October. It is run by the Armenian Chamber of Fashion and Textiles, with Yerevan's city hall as general sponsor, and this year's theme is Pink City Yerevan.

An opening at Erebuni

The week begins alongside the city's Erebuni-Yerevan celebrations, so the opening is at the Erebuni Museum. Its exhibition, Old Gods: from Erebuni to Modern Yerevan, puts work by young Armenian designers on some thirty mannequins, drawing on Levon Shant's play Old Gods and on Armenian mythology — set, quite deliberately, against the archaeology.

London as the prize

Proceedings open with the Fashion Scout contest, for which an international jury has chosen eight finalists. The winner earns a place at Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week, the mayor's customary prize of one million drams is awarded too, and the director of Polimoda in Florence will pick one entrant for a summer course.

What is open to everyone

The Showroom is open to the public with free entry: clothes, accessories and jewellery from more than forty Armenian labels. Fashion Talks, run with Dalma Garden Mall, brings in international guests for panel discussions, and Vogue, Harper's BAZAAR, ELLE and FashionUnited are expected in town.
